Love What You Do, and Where You Do It

By PJ Slade, Owner & CEO, Property Valet

As we start a new year and enter 2026, I took some time to reflect on how grateful I am for the success we’ve had at PV. There’s a simple truth I’ve come to appreciate more and more over the years: when you love what you do—and where you do it—your best work follows.

At Property Valet, we’re incredibly fortunate. Our “offices” aren’t glass towers or crowded city blocks. They’re set among some of Canada’s most beautiful natural landscapes—mountain towns alive with energy, four-season resorts that never stop evolving, and communities built around family fun, outdoor adventure, wellness, and connection.

On any given day, our team might finish a shift steps away from world-class golf, alpine hiking trails, ski hills, lakes, or vibrant village centres. They’re caring for remarkable homes—thoughtfully designed chalets and luxury residences that feel more like sanctuaries than properties. These surroundings aren’t just impressive; they’re inspiring.

And inspiration matters.

Place Shapes Performance

A very important person to me once said “People work for people”, and that certainly rings true today. But there are more layers to fulfillment and purpose in one’s work. When people feel proud of where they work, it changes how they show up. Loving your environment brings energy, optimism, and ownership into your day. It turns routine tasks into meaningful work. It sharpens attention to detail. It elevates standards.

I see it in our teams constantly—guest service professionals who go the extra mile because they genuinely care about the experience, operations staff who treat every home as if it were their own, and leaders who feel invested not just in results, but in the communities we serve.

This connection to place fuels performance. It creates teams that are more engaged, more resilient, and more collaborative. It builds a culture where people don’t just clock in—they contribute.

Pride is Contagious

When our team members love what they do, homeowners feel it. Guests feel it. Partners feel it. That pride shows up in communication, in consistency, and in the confidence we bring to every interaction.

Working in inspiring locations also reminds us why hospitality matters. We’re not just managing properties—we’re enabling memories. We’re supporting family reunions, milestone trips, powder days, summer escapes, and moments people look forward to all year. That perspective is powerful motivation.

Gratitude and Responsibility

With this privilege comes responsibility. These incredible places deserve care, respect, and professionalism. At Property Valet, we take that seriously—by investing in our people, supporting work-life balance, and building systems that allow our teams to do their best work without burning out.

I’m deeply grateful for our team members who choose to build their careers here, for the homeowners who trust us with their most valuable assets, and for the communities that welcome us as stewards of their homes and experiences.

Loving where you work doesn’t happen by accident—it’s built through culture, leadership, and shared values. And when it’s done right, it becomes one of the strongest drivers of performance there is.

We’re lucky. And we don’t take that for granted.
